Perfumes That Make You Sexier, Smarter & YoungerThe Hidden Benefits of the New Smart Scents
Do you want to appear sexier, smarter, prettier or younger? Then spray on one of the revolutionary new smart scents that are hitting the market in 2008.
The link between the human sub-conscious and smell is now being taken advantage of by clever perfumiers who are striving to find the right ingredients to make the wearer appear more youthful, more intelligent, happier, prettier, sexier and slimmer. In his recent book The Essence of Perfume, (Black Dog Publishing, September 2008) author Roja Dove explains the connection between smell and our sub-consciousness. The way that scent bypasses the rational mind and influences our perceptions. Dove says that the basic response to a fragrance is attraction or repulsion. The Rise of the Smart ScentsWe humans have long associated a sense of smell with past memory; a place we have traveled to, an ex-lover or a particular childhood event perhaps, but researchers are only beginning to discover the power of smell linked to their use (and marketability) in beauty products. Anti-ageing PerfumeAgeless Fantasy™ is billed by its creators Harvey Prince as the world’s first antiage perfume. According to Women’s Wear Daily of August 22,2008 in “Ageless Fantasy Creators Strive for Youth in a Bottle,” the perfume was developed to make a woman smell a certain age. Once a woman reaches forty she starts to secret a chemical called noneal, which has a grassy, greasy odor, and ordinary perfumes do not mask this scent. By using specially researched ingredients like jasmine and grapefruit, which are associated with youth, the wearer of Ageless Fantasy™, appears to smell (according to research results) an average of 8 years younger. The creators are now working on hand and body creams. The Cleverness ScentAnother scent which claims to have anti-aging properties also claims to aid memory and clarity. This is an aromatic elixir called Neuropeptide Synergy by Dr Nicholas Perricone. According to the Daily Mail, “Smart Scents" of November 2nd, 2008, the ingredients which include cinnamon and butterscotch, also boosts self-confidence, relieves stress and improves wellbeing and has an anti-ageing effect. In an experiment, the Mail’s tester, Elizabeth Roberts, 35 claimed that she felt relaxed and a happier when wearing it. Neuropeptide Synergy (£215 from www.nvpmd.co.uk) is not technically a perfume as it works by being applied to the upper lip and actually has no strongly discernable smell. The Happiness ScentSwiss perfumier, Firmench, has created a fragrance called Smiley which claims to make the wearer feel happier. It is billed on retailer Austique.co.uk as “the perfect recipe for happiness …a feel-good perfume.” This anti-depressant scent contains the micro-nutrients theobromine (founding chocolate) and phenylethyalmine, which release happy hormones! To lift your mood the ingredients include notes of patchouli, bergamont and musk. The perfume has a particular fresh, clean, almost soapy smell. The 30ml Eau De Parfum spray costs £25. According to Austique, even the packaging will make you smile! The Sexiness ScentNotes of tuberose, jasmine, neroli and bergamont make up the smart scent, Fleur Savage by Tsi-La (£25 4ml). Jasmine is linked with the human sub-conscious smell of sex and tuberose, a rare and precious flower that is known to have powerful aphrodisiac qualities. Puresha.com, which sells the fragrance says “The legend of the tuberose warns young girls not to breathe in its bewitching fragrance after dark, for fear of being overcome by desire.” According to the Mail, there are even stories of French Perfumier Jean Paul Guerlain having to place his tuberose outside on the terrace on nights when he was on his own!
